Auburn Hills, Mich., Sep 1, 2005 – Bold, durable and delivering best-in-class torque, towing capability and interior room, the “Ram tough” legacy continues with the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Box-Off models. Expanding the wide array of business and commercial work applications, the Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 meet industry dimensional box-off standards for virtually any type of installation, including flat beds, utility/service bodies, stake bodies, landscaping, dry box, aerial devices, rancher bodies and catering applications.

“The 2006 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Box-Off packs a sledgehammer-like punch with a choice of premium engines that offer the durability and versatility to keep commercial customers churning out the work year after year,” said Darryl Jackson, Vice President – Dodge Marketing, Chrysler Group. “A crucial component of our commercial vehicle program, the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Box-Off successfully blends the needs of the commercial truck and heavy-duty pickup truck markets, offering superior capability and strength with enhanced handling, safety and power.”

Available Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Box-Off features include a choice of 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 or 5.9-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engines, 17-inch wheels and tires, and an extended driving range due to its large 35-gallon fuel tank. An adjustable fuel filler kit allows upfitters flexibility in locating the fuel fill to meet end users’ needs.

Available in regular and Quad Cab™ models, frame rail rear spacing of 42 inches and cab-to-axle dimensions of 37 and 57 inches allows easy upfits for commercial buyers’ individual needs. The Dodge Ram 2500 Box-Off maximum Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is 9,000 lbs., maximum body and payload is 3,700 lbs., and maximum Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) is 20,000 lbs. Dodge Ram 3500 Box-Off’s maximum GVWR is 11,500 lbs., with a maximum body and payload of 5,580 lbs. and best-in-class maximum GCWR of 23,000 lbs.

The Best Gets Better for 2006
Staying true to Dodge Ram’s bold, tough, in-your-face attitude, the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Box-Off models have been refined in styling and interior comfort. For 2006, new additions to the Dodge Ram Box-Off lineup include a Ram 3500 dual-rear-wheel 4×4 model with a GVWR of 11,500 lbs., and new exterior modifications including new front fenders, grille, fascia, bumper and headlamps, optional power sliding rear window, and two new colors: Khaki and Inferno Red.

Large, angular headlamp modules utilize halogen bulbs that provide 22 percent more light intensity and 40 percent improved beam spectrum than the previous Dodge Ram.

New interior enhancements on the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Box-Off models include new ventilation and air conditioning controls, center stack, rear-compartment reading lamps, Occupant Classification System (OCS), new full-screen navigation radio, optional front bucket seats with full-floor console, door trim panels, standard heated seats on Laramie models, available DVD rear-seat video system on Quad Cab models, Infinity® sound system, UConnect™ hands-free communication system, power sliding rear window, front and rear head restraints and a redesigned instrument panel and gauge cluster.

Performance and functional improvements include a modified Ram 2500/3500 frame and 4×2 front suspension, new engine and transmission mounts, body mounts, new anti-lock braking system (ABS), retuned front and rear springs, and new shocks, jounce bumpers and suspension bushings on all models.

As Durable As It Is Powerful
Significant power and capability combined with outstanding durability and ease of maintenance make the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Box-Off an obvious choice for heavy-duty box-off customers. The 2006 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Box-Off is powered by one of the most potent powertrain combinations in the heavy-duty segment.

The standard 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine produces 345 horsepower (257 kW) and 375 lb.-ft. (509 N•m) of torque at 4,400 rpm. Versus competitive vehicles with similar size gasoline engines, it provides best-in-class acceleration and towing capability.

Synonymous with power and durability, the optional fuel-efficient Cummins Turbo Diesel generates a class-dominating 610 lb.-ft. (827 N•m) of torque and 325 horsepower (242 kW). In addition to the most torque available in a production heavy-duty box-off, the Cummins Turbo Diesel has overhaul intervals of 350,000 miles, providing more than a 100,000-mile advantage over the competition.

With best-in-class oil change intervals of 15,000 miles (versus 7,500 for the competition), the inline-six Cummins Turbo Diesel contains 40 percent fewer parts than typical V-8 diesels, adding durability, simplified assembly, better reliability and lower repair costs to its repertoire. The Cummins Turbo Diesel is covered by a 5-year/100,000-mile limited warranty.

Built To Work As Hard As Its Customers Do
To make the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Box-Off more durable than ever, Dodge engineers utilized Dodge Ram Heavy Duty’s stiff, hydroformed frame and superior suspension system. Heavy-duty beam front and rear axles on four-wheel-drive models and the biggest brakes in the heavy-duty class add to Dodge Ram Box-Off’s durability.

Retaining the most visually recognizable DNA of any pickup truck on the market, the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Box-Off is built directly for commercial customer use with exceptional upfit, towing and carrying capabilities. Body and payload capacity of 5,580 lbs. on Dodge Ram 3500 regular cab with a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine ensures dominating performance for commercial use.

Color offerings include Atlantic Blue, Bright White, Flame Red, Black, Bright Silver Metallic, Patriot Blue, Light Khaki Metallic, Inferno Red and Mineral Gray Metallic.

The Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Box-Off is built at Chrysler Group’s Saltillo, Mexico, and St. Louis (Mo.) North Assembly Plants.
