Grew up in Senegal before he and his family returned permanently to the United States and settled in New Jersey.His full name is actualy Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam, often going by the shorter Aliaune Thiam, is best known by his fans simply as Akon.Akon’s solo debut album “Trouble” was released on June 29, 2004.His single “Locked Up” reached the top 10 in the U.S. and the top five in the UK and the other single “Lonely” became the longest running single on the top of the chart, spanning over fifteen weeks.Akon’s second album, “Konvicted” was released on November 14, 2006.He was collaboration with famous artists like Snoop Dog, Styles P., and Eminem.This album make a selling record, selling 285,000 copies in its first week, after only six weeks, Konvicted sold more than one million records in the U.S. and more than 1.3 million worldwide.With the singles “Smack That” he was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards.
